WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • OQEP awarded SLB a contract for the Bisat-B expansion production plant in Oman’s onshore Block 60.
  • SLB will provide design, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and 4 years of operations and maintenance support.
  • The expansion is expected to increase gross fluids handling capacity to 548,000 b/d and be completed within 19 months.
  • The award follows delivery of the Bisat-A plant in 2018 and the original Bisat-B plant in 2020.

OQ Exploration & Production, known as OQEP, has awarded SLB a contract to deliver the Bisat-B expansion production plant in Block 60, onshore in western central Oman. The award advances the Bisat field into its next stated phase of development.

The contract gives SLB responsibility for a broad range of work associated with the expansion plant. Its assigned scope covers design, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning services for the facility.

Design and engineering form the opening parts of the delivery scope. Those services will support the planned production plant expansion before the project proceeds through procurement, construction, and final commissioning.

SLB will also handle procurement for the project under the contract awarded by OQEP. Construction of the Bisat-B expansion plant is included in the same package of services.

Commissioning is another specified part of SLB’s work. This phase will follow the design, engineering, procurement, and construction activities required to deliver the expansion production plant.

SLB’s role will continue after delivery of the plant. The contract includes 4 years of operations and maintenance support for the expanded facility.

That support extends the company’s participation beyond the construction and commissioning stages. Operations and maintenance services will be provided for the period specified under the contract.

The Bisat-B expansion is expected to raise gross fluids handling capacity to 548,000 b/d. The source did not provide a separate figure for the facility’s existing gross fluids handling capacity.

The capacity increase is the central operational objective identified for the project. It applies specifically to gross fluids handling at the Bisat-B facility in Block 60.

Completion of the expansion is expected within 19 months, according to SLB. That schedule covers the project whose scope includes design, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.

The latest award follows earlier plant deliveries at Bisat field. The Bisat-A plant was delivered in 2018, establishing the first of the project milestones identified in the development sequence.

The original Bisat-B plant followed in 2020. The newly contracted work is an expansion of that Bisat-B facility rather than the original plant delivery.

OQEP’s award therefore marks the next phase of Bisat field development after the 2018 and 2020 plant deliveries. The sequence now moves to an expansion intended to increase the site’s gross fluids handling capacity.

The contract joins plant delivery services with a defined period of operational support. SLB will carry out the listed project activities and then provide 4 years of operations and maintenance assistance.

All of the contracted work relates to the Bisat-B expansion production plant in Block 60. The location is identified as an onshore block in western central Oman.

The project reflects continuing investment in Oman’s upstream oil and gas sector. Its stated purpose is to enhance production capabilities through expansion of the Bisat-B facility.

The planned capacity of 548,000 b/d stands as the project’s principal disclosed performance figure. The 19 month completion expectation and 4 year support period define the other central timelines released with the contract.

For OQEP, the award continues development at a field where Bisat-A and the original Bisat-B plant were previously delivered. For SLB, the contract spans the expansion plant’s design through commissioning, followed by the specified operations and maintenance support.
