Baker Hughes has secured a key contract to supply advanced compression equipment for Argentina’s gas infrastructure expansion, underscoring the company’s growing role in supporting South America’s energy transition.

The order, announced in early 2024, covers the provision of several high-efficiency compression systems that will support the next stage of Argentina’s gas transportation development.

The project focuses on expanding pipeline capacity in order to handle increasing gas production from the Vaca Muerta formation, one of the world’s largest unconventional shale reserves. This development is essential for improving domestic supply reliability while positioning Argentina as a potential energy exporter in the region.

Baker Hughes will provide its proven compression solutions, including turbocompressor packages designed to deliver high performance under demanding operational conditions. These systems will be installed at new and existing compressor stations along the pipeline route to optimize efficiency and throughput.

According to Baker Hughes, the compression units are designed to minimize emissions and fuel consumption while maintaining exceptional reliability. They integrate the company’s latest digital monitoring and predictive maintenance tools to ensure optimal operation and lifecycle performance.

The Eiffel II pipeline expansion, also referred to locally as the Tratayén–Salliqueló extension, is the central focus of this supply contract. It will expand the capacity of Argentina’s natural gas network to move larger volumes from the Vaca Muerta fields to key consumption and export centers.

This project is considered one of Argentina’s most strategic infrastructure initiatives of the decade because it supports national energy independence, industrial competitiveness, and broader decarbonization goals.
